WHAT A FIND 

I had gotten a telephone call from a friend who had received a call from a former club member’s brother. The former club member had passed away and the brother was the executor of the estate. They had asked for me to come by and help with the disposition of Model “A” Cars and parts. I spent a two or three days there going over all of the items and came up with the best solution of having an on site sale by putting a price on the larger items and take offers or auction off the other items. The brother had been single and living alone and they said they were trying to get the property in shape to put it on the market and would like to have someone like me to take the entire lot of cars and extra parts.

WOW, what would my wife say about that?

I do not have enough room already and now we are talking about 3 additional cars plus a running chassis with splash aprons, running boards and all except the body, not talking about a 30 X 40 ft shop full of parts, etc. They really wanted to get the “stuff” out as soon as possible. I have a good friend who has a deep 4 bay shop in addition to his garage plus a couple more out buildings and a fish house. I talked to him and he got all excited about it and I told him I could not store any more at my place and he said

“Don’t worry about that”.

We went up the next day and looked it over and again stressed it would be better to sell it on site by an auction or just price it piece by piece and sell it but he said they would rather someone just buy the entire batch so they could clear up the estate and asked us to make them an offer of what we would pay and of course, we did just that. Under the circumstances, we thought we were making a fair offer and he said he would consult with the rest of the family and get back with us in about 3 days. The next day we received the call and said the offer was fine and when could we get started. Of course we said right away and when we got there the first thing we wanted to do was t get the cars and chassis out of the way and transport them to my friends place. We did want the titles changed before we moved them so when we went to the Department of Motor Vehicles to transfer titles over, he (Seller) said he would pay all expenses of title transfer and applicable taxes from the proceeds of the sale.

What a gentleman and what a deal!

We spent about a week of transporting the items back out way (which was about 20 miles away) and stashing it. I never saw so much stuff in my life and it was really exciting just going through all the stuff. Of course the family went through and picked out the tools they wanted to keep and left the rest for us.

Of the 3 cars, only one was in good running condition and we sold that to one of our friends at a decent price as he had always wanted a 31 Tudor. I followed him home and could hardly keep up with him in my modern car. He said he had to hold back on it as he had never seen a car that wanted to run so fast.

The nice chassis was also sold to another friend and he really liked it. Both front fenders were welled for dual side mounts and were in great shape. The rear fenders were also in great shape.

The 30 Town Sedan went to another proud owner just North of us and the 1929 Murray Fordor went to Australia.

It took a few Months to get through all of this but it was interesting, frustrating and sometimes a bit confusing.

While educational as it was, I would not do such a thing again
(One thing is because Sabina would probably shoot me if I did)
as it is just too much with so little space to do it in, plus, what do I need with so many parts, etc.
